• Parastou Forouhar - Persian for kids 2012 an activity that uses the script of the Farsi language. Kids create their own animal form shaped from Farsi lettering.

• Uji Handoko Eko Saputro (aka Hahan) Memento masko 2012 is inspired by mask-making traditions across Indonesia with a series of black-and-white masks for kids to complete by drawing their own facial expressions.

• Roslisham Ismail (aka Ise) Sira pisang (Glazed banana) 2012. Kids illustrate and share their favourite meal on a specially designed placemat and receive a traditional Malaysian recipe, beautifully illustrated by the artist, which they can then cook and share at home.

• Tromarama Wattt?! 2010. The imaginary after-dark activities of lamps take centrestage in the playful film Wattt?!. Set in a typical living room, a desk lamp is supported by a cast of colourful lights in this fun stop-motion animation.

An additional aspect of Kids’ APT7 on Tour will celebrate the role of artists in communities with a Comic / Cartoon Workshop related to the activity book 'Hahan and Friends' created in collaboration with the Children’s Art Centre and Indonesian artist Hahan. Focused on his comic book style of illustration it will provide insight into his drawing techniques and materials he uses.

Nov Art - Elements of Drawing and Painting

Kids Art Society met up again on Saturday 3rd November to explore the elements of drawing and painting.  Had a very good turn out so much so some had to be turned away!  We had no more space, chairs or assistants!  Kids all seemed to enjoy themselves.  We had two session running - one for the kids doing elements of drawing and painting and a second with paper drawing using marker pens and entertainment by Bob the Balloon Man!  This was excellent and the kids joined in with enthusiasm.

You can see individual photos on Kids Art Society Photo Album

Due to the large number of Kids we called on Bob and Eve to assist so that all the kids had an enjoyable time and produced some amazing art.

The first Saturday Monthly art session will continue and we'd like to be sure that any kids interested have the chance to attend.  We need help and assistance to run the sessions.

If YOU are able to join us please contact Faye Pini by phone or email to discuss.  Thanks!

School Holiday's 'Pop-Up' Art Sessions

Soon the kids will have a break from school so let the arty fun begin! Lets 'Mix It Up' with mixed media art created by our own Cooktown Kids! Creating artworks that combine more than one art medium, combinations of pencil, paint, or possibly clay, wire, wood, metal, etc., with the opportunity to use collage materials.

Have the kids search through the house for old cards, magazines, natural found objects or reuse items that have been discarded and lets see what we can create.

On Saturday 22nd September the School Holiday start and so should we! For creative art activities look no further than the Kids Art Society with 'Pop-Up' session at the gallery!

Don’t allow the words “I’m bored,” in your house this school holiday instead hear the the words “I had such great fun!”

For kids who register with Kids Art Society before the School Holidays we offer their choice of a free art pad for drawing or painting.

Art Session Saturday 1st September 2012

Arts Session One - Elizabeth Guzsely Verandah.  The kids attending have decided the group will be named:

Cooktown 'Kids Art Society'.

Cooktown KIDS ART SOCIETY Session One

The FIRST Cooktown 'KIDS ART SOCIETY' get together was held today on gallery verandah.

Thirteen kids attended an introductory art session and discussed the type of art materials they are interested in using for future sessions.

A large list has been made and an order will be sent.
Cooktown Kids want to paint in acrylics, watercolour, fabric; draw with charcoal, markers, graphite, inks; do collage, air dry clays, plaster molding, craft with stickers, templates, glitter, and wooden shapes and much much more.

So the enthusiasm is there and we will be looking forward to many interesting art and craft creations over the next year!
